Intelligent leaders rarely fail from lack of strategy.

They fail because something shaped the decision long before strategy came into it. The wrong partner, the wrong hire, the deal that looked right on paper. The same patterns show up again and again, and they are very human.

MIND BEHIND THE MOVE · INTRODUCTION

From the author

I wrote this to save you twenty years.

After decades of negotiating high-stakes deals across industries and continents, one pattern became impossible to ignore. Something inside us chooses first, and reasoning arrives later to justify what is already moving.

Nobody teaches you how to read people, or how to notice when something is shifting. You usually learn it through decades of mistakes. I wrote this so you don't have to.

From the book
A deal that felt reckless at the time becomes a “calculated risk” in hindsight. A hire that raised red flags gets remembered as “the best decision I ever made” once the discomfort fades.
  • Before you make a move, something inside you already has.
  • Your decision patterns are as unique as your fingerprint.
  • The logical system often just finds reasons to justify what the emotional system has already decided.

Written for people whose decisions carry weight.

  • CEOs and founders
  • Owners and principals
  • Board members and investors
  • Surgeons, lawyers and consultants

This is a book about the person making the call, and about what is deciding for them before they know it.
